How can I configure a 0-20mA current analog input on my PLIO03?
June 10, 2017 by Will Blackwell

What to know

The PLIO03 optional integrated IO module have 4 analog input channels, these channels can be programmed in Type and Scale to allow different kind of measures.
Below you can find and explanation on how to wire and set-up the PLIO03 for a 0-20 mA current measure.

What to do

Wiring

Below scheme shows the wiring scheme of a Current Input, in this specific example connected on CH3 channel, on CN2 connector of the PLIO03.

You can find specific wiring examples and informations regarding the PLIO03 into the apposite PLIO03 manual.

Analog Input set-up

The setting up of the Analog Inputs is done into Codesys V2.3 workbench, below we explain how to add the PLIO03 into the PLC Configuration of the Codesys application and then set-up the Analog Input properties.

To add the PLIO03 into the PLC configuration select the “Resources” tab from the project configuration area of the Codesys Workbench, then double click on the “PLC Configuration” voice.
From the PLC Configuration window right click on the “Exor International JMobile WCE” voice, then into the context menu select “Append Subelement” and choose “PLIO03” from the list.

Once the PLIO03 has been added to the PLC configuration the Analog Input must be configured properly, according to the required measure, to do this select the “PLIO03 – ANALOG INPUTS” from the IO list, then from the Module parameters tab, set up the required channel.
In the image below, as per our example, we selected 2 Current (microA) type for CH3 channel.

Once the channel type has been selected we need to specify the required Scale for the channel, to do this, always from the Module parameters tab, you need to select the required Scale for the channel.
In the image below, as per our example, we selected 2 (+/-20mA) scale for CH3 channel.

Once the selection of the scale has been done you are ready to get your measures, please note that the value is provided with the measure unit specified into the channel type selection so, in this case microA.

Further informations about the configuration of the Analog Inputs of the PLIO03 module can be founto into the apposite technote PTN0404
